Dear 2014 NNIN REU Community*:
On Tuesday, July 29th, Cornell University will host a Societal and Ethical Issues in Nanotechnology (SEI) webinar. We’ll send out the actual URL on Monday the 28th, but in the meantime, please put this network event on your calendar!
“The Rise and Fall of Hendrik Schon: A Case Study in Scientific Fraud.”
Prof. Paul McEuen, Department of Physics, Cornell University
Societal and Ethical Issues in Nanotechnology
Tuesday, July 29th // 2:00-3:30 p.m. Eastern
Hendrik Schon was a hot shot at Bell labs in the late 1990s, publishing a paper every eight days on some really incredible stuff. Stuff that was unbelievable to some. And it turns out it was all fake. Prof. McEuen at Cornell was part of a small group that uncovered the fraud. During this presentation, Prof. McEuen will talk about the discovery of the fraud and the ethical issues involved. There will be a Q&A session afterwards. (During the Q&A, participants from other sites can text their questions to 1-607-379-1774.)
